After days and days of watching and reading several reviews, I thought I had finally found it.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 features a 20x optical zoom and has a 3-inch touch LCD. But upon seeing sample images, I was quite disappointed. So I decided to go on and look for something better. And I did. The Fujifilm Finepix X10 is a beautiful retro-looking camera. I was in love and 90% sure I would finally settle.
So what changed? In the next couple of months, I will be watching quite a few concerts (Tegan and Sara, perhaps Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix, and Laneway Festival) and, after more research, it just seemed that the 4x optical zoom of the Fujifilm X10 isn’t gonna be enough. Although its image quality is really great, I feel that I will have a better time during these concerts with a camera equipped with a longer zoom.
For a while, I thought about the Panasonic Lumix ZS30 again, but I felt it wasn’t that worth it. I decided to look into another brand and found out about some of Sony’s long shot cameras: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX300, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V, and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V.
The Sony HX30V and HX50V are quite similar. The latter, being the latest model, has a better zoom (30x optical zoom; I’ve watched some pretty sick videos!), but I’ve read a lot of reviews from first-hand users who say the image quality of the HX30V is better. But these two models are still a bit pricey for the image quality they offer, so there remained the WX300. It is slim, compact, and simple. I think it offers everything for someone like me who just wants a proper point and shoot camera that has a long battery life.
I can’t say I’ve completely made up my mind, but I think I’m close. Thing about me is I can be really indecisive when offered too many choices, so I just have to really sit down and weigh the pros and cons of each and settle with the one that fits me best.
